Kisima is an extensive, highly productive, mixed working farm in Timau, Meru County, Kenya.  Founded in 1919, and incorporated in 1943, the agribusiness is 100% Kenyan owned and operated.  Whilst arable crops and floriculture are the primary focus, Kisima also manages a successful forestry programme and supports numerous thriving community development projects.

Kisima demonstrates leading environmental stewardship, makes optimal use of land under responsible farming practices, and values its reputation as an ethical food producer of national significance.  Kisima is committed to generating significant value for adjacent communities and to being equal opportunity employer of choice in the sector and region.

About us

At the end of the First World War, Will Powys drew several thousand acres around the Kisima spring on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya under the soldier settler scheme.  This was fortunate as the spring ensured his land had water, which enabled him to survive the years ahead when many other settlers did not.

Will went to work for an established farmer, taking his pay in trees, stock, and machinery.  In 1927, he was able to start his business at Kisima, 8,000 feet above sea level.

Will married Elizabeth and together they had three children: Rose, who lived at Ngare Ndare until her death in early 2018, Charles, who was killed in a gun accident in 1964, and Gilfrid, who chaired the Kisima board for 47 years and was head of the Kisima enterprise until his death in December 2017.

Members of the Powys / Dyer family continue to work for and on Kisima Farm.  Francis Dyer and Geoffrey Morley are Board members.  Charles Dyer serves as Kisima’s General Manager for the Kisima Foundation.

They are supported by Nigel Leakey (CEO), Ian Robertson (General Manager Arable), Craig Oulton (General Manager Floriculture), Francis Mutua (Chief Financial Officer), Simon Nderitu (Forestry Manager), Samuel Muthui (Finance Manager), and over 600 other employees.
