Kisima Farm Updates
July updates
Pictured below is a Kisima flower bouquet designed by our packhouse manager Ruth. Health & Safety training underway on the proper use of harnesses when working on the greenhouse roofs. A new state of the art irrigation system has been set up to feed a planned 2ha rose expansion and further summer flowers expansion. The first Delphinium grown inside a greenhouse! This is an exciting new venture with new varieties. The new planting of 'No Limit' will come into production in July.
Haygrove Tunnels
The Haygrove tunnels are now complete and ready for a new crop. These tunnels provide better growing conditions and protection from the rain. A new trial house has also been built and the first trial varieties have been planted.
Agricultural Field Day
The agricultural field day planned for the 11th March 2021 went ahead as planned with a permit from the Public Health Authority. Covid-19 protocols were observed - hand washing, temperature checks and social distancing. There were 16 exhibitors at the field day and over 460 people attended the event.
Kisima Wetlands
The wetlands at the entrance to the Kisima Floriculture were recently opened up to increase the bio diversity, water storage and carbon.
Agrobacteria Warriors
Meet the agrobacteria warriors! These gentlemen work tirelessly to make sure that agro bacterium does not defeat us - well done!
Valentines Day
Kisima Floriculture had a very successful Valentines Day supplying record levels of top quality Madame Red to the Dutch auctions. Good prices and high production have made for a very successful start to the year!
Mathiola Bedrooms
The Kisima Floriculture department has completed the building of new greenhouses which have been patented 'Mathiola Bedrooms'. The greenhouses are made using all recycled materials apart from the plastic sheeting.

Schools Reopen
On 26th October Grade 4 and Standard 8 primary school pupils and Form 4 secondary school pupils were able to return to school. One of the conditions for reopening was that the school provide hand washing facilities for the pupils and teachers. The Kisima Foundation donated 35 Tippy Taps to the 8 primary and 2 secondary schools in the area.
Rose Planting
Rose planting is underway as all the Floriculture teams are motivated and planting for the future.
Cloud on the ground
The weather conditions have started to lift after a few weeks of very cold and foggy conditions at Kisima.
Summer Flowers
The new Summer flowers trial area is progressing well and the trial house will be completed by mid October. This is an exciting project as it will enable Floriculture to look at both indoor and outdoor Summer flowers. The Craspedia crop expansion is also underway and the flowers are looking beautiful!
Free Spirit Intenz
Kisima launched a new variety of rose - Free Spirit Intenz. This rose is exclusive to Kisima Farm and has proven very popular in the market despite these difficult times with Covid 19 affecting the export of flowers.
Valentines Day
February 2020 was a successful month with a strong Valentine's where the red rose ‘Madame Red’ proved very popular. Kisima quality shone through, despite all the rain, and there was great feedback from Holland.
